Staying Grounded in a Changing World: My Journey Since September
It’s been nearly a year now since I’ve had a full-time job.
Back in September 2024, I wrapped up my last contract and stepped into what I thought would be a short pause. I was hopeful — I had years of experience in software development and quality assurance, and a strong portfolio. But time passed, and job offers didn’t come.
The industry was changing quickly. Artificial Intelligence has become more than just a tool — it has started replacing roles entirely. Companies began relying on automation and letting people go, and many of us in tech felt the shift deeply.
The Quiet Challenge
It’s not easy being unemployed for months. The hardest part isn’t just the financial strain — it’s the silence, the rejections, and the sense that your skills no longer matter.
But I haven’t given up.
I still believe in the importance of hard work, attention to detail, and creating things that serve real people. I still think that craftsmanship matters — even in an era when speed and automation prevail.
What I’ve Been Doing
While I wait for that next door to open, I’ve chosen to stay productive.
I’ve continued working on OfferCodes, helping users easily find app deals and redeem codes.
I’ve contributed to Knoc, an app that enables neighbors to easily share Ring camera footage, so when reports need to be made, people have the evidence they need to stay informed and safe.
I’ve also worked on Rugby Web, a platform that supports kids in rugby sports, providing teams and families with a clean space to organize their schedules, updates, and more.
I’ve taken the time to explore new technologies, such as Hotwire, Docker, and Hotwire Native, for building mobile apps using Rails as the backend.
But more importantly, I’ve been present at home.
I spend more time with my wife. I cook. I clean the house. I continue to drive her to work, just like I did when I had a job. These small things have become big blessings. In caring for her, I find a sense of peace.
And above all, I keep my faith strong. I pray the Rosary daily. I continue to trust in God’s plan. St. Jude remains close to my heart — and in moments of doubt, I remember that I am not forgotten.
Looking Ahead
I don’t know when the right opportunity will come. But I know it will because I haven’t stopped learning, working, or praying. I haven’t stopped trying to be a good husband and a faithful man.
If you’re going through a hard season like this, too, I just want to say — you’re not the only one. Keep going. Stay close to your family. Keep your faith. Do the work that is in front of you today, no matter how small.
God sees it all.
Thank you for reading my story. May you stay grounded, hopeful, and faithful — no matter what season you’re in.
